“I wish I knew someone that did amazing graphics and could help me with my website, blog, media kit, rescue project, Facebook image, in general!”

I get asked frequently who I would recommend for graphics that won’t cost a small arm, leg and paw. It is with great pleasure that I lift the shroud of secrecy and reveal one of the most amazing graphic designers to grace this planet with his presence. I gush because he deserves it. His name is Corey Olin and if you haven’t heard of him, you will. Corey is one of those people I turn to when I want something to look nice, well done, polished and professional but have no idea what I want from the end result. He gets inside my head, works magic, and wha-la… he produces what people ooh and ahh about.Really.

I asked Corey if he would share some of why he does what he does, how he does it, and perhaps you might want to investigate his talents for yourself. Talent personified: I introduce Corey Olin.

Fidose of Reality: Hola!  Give us a little background about who you are and what you do, Corey.

Corey Olin: My name is Corey, I am a 10+ year brand strategist, graphic designer and illustrator for all media types. I have served over 110 satisfied clients, with a speciality of sorts in pet-powered design.

FOR: Oooh, pet-powered design. Love that.  What made  you go into this field/profession; had it long been a dream or was it something that you found you enjoyed as you got older?

CO: My background interest has always been commercial arts, ranging from animation to communication design. The dream realized quite early on was to freelance as an artist, polish brands into market-ready forces and manage production. Graphic design bit me while in New York at fashion and culture magazines. In 2005, I proposed a redesign for the first ever city-dog magazine, The New York Dog, and became Creative Director. Apparently, I developed a scent to attract canine companies around the world. The people and pets I have met along the way have provided boundless, delightful inspiration.

FOR: Oooh la la, Corey! What are some of the projects you’ve worked on in the dog world?

CO: As our lifestyles are shared by our pets, the dog market is one of the most dense. That means business opportunity is abound. Recent projects I have directed include the 50th issue redesign of FIDO Friendly magazine, event marketing for The Pre-Westminster Fashion Show, fashion illustration for Dog Model (Spain) and brand/advertising design for dozens of pet products.

Many pet products and services are the brainchildren of small business owners, who do not have the means to hire an expert  graphic designer, web person and marketer. I offer a highly completive rate for companies who need it all done in one streamlined pass—all from my virtual studio.

FOR: For bloggers out there and folks looking for a graphic designer, what sort of projects do you welcome and generally work on?

CO: I welcome projects from all media avenues. My focus is brand strategy, which envelopes websites, logos, apps, print and marketing.

FOR: From a pricing perspective, is there a discount you can offer Fidose of Reality fans?

CO: Pet people are offered my 50% Humanitarian Discount. This is a market I am very comfortable with and am happy to help grown startups with a special price.

FOR: You are truly amazing. That helps so much. Well what makes your portfolio so unique and stand out from others in this field?

CO: The audience of my work has the final say—in commercial arts, consumption is valued over conception. I am proud to have had my portfolio described as “timeless,” “smart,” “illustrative,” and “fun.” I value the combined illustration and graphic qualities in my work, which demonstrates personality in the designs.

FOR: What about start ups and some advice from a pro like yourself?

CO: If you are a startup or now recognizing brand value, it helps to know which are the  tested trends of communication design. Creative direction implies responsibilities of conception, integration and marketing. The job 50:50 visual impact and market integration. For those looking for a plan, I can take you from start to finesse.

FOR: Where can fans learn more and find samples of your work?

CO: View portfolio, make comments and contact at www.coreyolin.me.
